Whirlwind Tour of Akihabara
Tim Rogers gave us the Official Action Button Dot Net Tour of Akihabara this afternoon, and it was pretty freaking awesome. It was like a world where people saw youtube videos of Japan and then MADE THEM FLESH. My whole body hurts, but I did pick up some sweet stuff, like some kids books and the second volume of the Japanese textbook set I’ve been inching my way through.

Still unconfirmed. I’ll be going to the Pokemon Center before too long and I’ll write up an Official Report.
There was a Half-Life 2 arcade game… It had twin sticks and foot pedals, and it seemed reasonably popular. It was next to Silent Hill the Arcade, which was awful.
Near the end of the trip, I played Radiant Silvergun in the arcade, and I died 3 times by the middle of the second level. I was so tired, and I felt like Half a Man.
So far I’m really loving this town! It’s incredible to see things like “the oldest arcade in Akihabara,” Taito’s first arcade, which is likely one of the first places in the world where people could play video games outside of universities with super computers. And walking around Ginza when we came across the Kabukia-za was pretty amazing… This place is like 120 years old and there it is in downtown Tokyo.
